David Summer holds a Bachelor of Music in Education from Lowell University. He began his teaching career as a K-12 Music Teacher in Sabattus, ME, teaching classroom music as well as directing the school bands and high school chorus. He then went on to work as a music teacher in several Massachusetts public schools including Natick and Holliston where he taught instrumental music, band, orchestra and elementary classroom music.

David also taught Music Theatre, AP Music Theory and Band at Marian High School in Framingham, MA. He directed the band at the school football games, for graduation ceremonies, in many public performances around Framingham and as part of the annual Marian HS musicals.

As a performing musician, David has played in many different types of ensembles including big bands, jazz ensembles, function bands, brass ensembles and chamber groups. He led his own jazz quintet and wrote musical arrangements for many of these ensembles. He now specializes in performing as a soloist for church services and other ceremonial occasions.

David is also very involved in music technology. He produces his own recordings, in his multi-track home recording studio, covering a wide range of material from classical to jazz. These include his own compositions and arrangements and make use of David's ability as a multi-instrumentalist, playing the flute, trumpet, trombone and keyboards.

David also uses his home recording studio to produce a podcast of special interest to flute students, performers and music teachers. This weekly flute podcast showcases a collection of standard flute duets, which are also posted in play along versions.

David is the author of several articles on audio recording and other aspects of music technology. These articles have been published in leading music magazines such as Recording and Electronic Musician. They include photographs and recorded examples.

In addition to his music degree, David also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He uses this to help him run a business called SummerSound. SummerSound specializes in helping small businesses design, develop and maintain their websites, as well as setup and maintain their podcast initiatives.
